Swedish cash register law (SKVFS 2014:9 §4 ch. 9§) states that a sale may not be completed if the control unit is unreachable. Therefore Vendion runs an automatic health check on your fiscal box before every payment.
What is the health check?
When a cashier logs into the POS – and every five minutes during a shift – Vendion pings your fiscal box to confirm it's responding. You never see the ping if everything is fine; it only becomes visible if something breaks.
What happens if the box doesn't respond?
You see a red banner at the top of the POS:
⚠️ Fiscal box unreachable — cannot take payment
At the same time the Pay button is disabled until the issue is resolved. You can still:
The only thing blocked is finalizing payment (i.e. printing a receipt with the control code).
Why so strict?
The fiscal box signs every receipt with a cryptographic code. Without the signature the receipt is invalid in the Tax Agency's eyes. If you take payment without a signature, you can face fines and back-taxes. Vendion's block is a safeguard against unintentionally breaking the law.
How to resolve the outage:
Click the banner – a diagnostic dialog appears with three options:
Check physical basics:
Reboot the fiscal box:
If the problem persists:
What happens to open orders?
Orders that were open when the outage started stay parked. No data is lost. When the box is back online:
Receipts "stuck" during outage:
If a payment was started but interrupted when the box went down:
If the card was already charged but no receipt was printed:
How often is the box pinged?
| Occasion | Frequency |
|---|---|
| Login | Immediate |
| Before payment | Immediate |
| During shift | Every 5 minutes |
| Overnight (closed) | Not at all |

Emergency: no internet, no box?
If internet is totally down:
Ask AI Boss: "Have we had any kontrollbox outages this month?" – AI Boss shows a list with timestamps, duration and whether action was needed.
