Closing the day with open tabs still around
The day's close in Vendion is done with a Z-report. A common question is what happens if there are still open (unpaid) tabs when you run it.
The Z-report counts only what's paid
A Z-report sums the day's paid sales and resets the day. Open, unpaid tabs are therefore not included in the Z-report's sales figures – they stay open and carry over to the next day until they're paid.
You can see how many are open
Before you create the Z-report you can preview the day's till (X-report). The summary shows the line "Open tabs/orders" with the count still unpaid. That's your signal that something isn't closed.
Close open tabs first – here's how
- Open the X-report / preview and note the number of open tabs
- Go to the floor map and the parked tabs and close them one by one: take payment, move or void (see the article on table tabs left open)
- When the open tab count is zero – create the Z-report
Why close them first?
- Correct figures: an unpaid tab that's forgotten never becomes revenue – close it so the day's sales add up
- Clean start: the next shift doesn't inherit old tabs
- Clear follow-up: you see right away if a table actually left without paying (then you void it deliberately) instead of it hiding in an open tab
Good to know:
- Only one Z-report per day is allowed (unless test mode is on). Create it when the day is truly done.
- The Z-report prints on the receipt printer and is saved in the journal memory under Swedish fiscal law.
Tip: Do a quick check of "Open tabs/orders" in the preview every evening before running Z. If the number is zero you know the whole day is closed and booked.
