    Order Comments

    3 min read#13

Comments in Vendion exist on two levels – on the whole order or per item – and flow all the way from POS to kitchen and receipt. It's one of the most important features for preventing allergic reactions and elevating the guest experience.

    Order comment vs. item comment

    TypeShown onUse for
Order commentTicket header, receiptVIP guest, birthday, table context
Item commentThe line on the ticket (bold), receiptAllergy, cooking preference, modifier changes

    Add an order comment

    1. Click Comment in the quick buttons
    2. Type free text or pick a quick selection:
      • "VIP guest"
      • "Birthday 🎂"
      • "Allergy – ask customer"
      • "Regular"
      • "Business lunch"
    3. Save

The comment shows with a 💬 icon in the cart and follows the order all the way to the kitchen. On the ticket it lands at the top above the items.

    Add an item comment

    1. Click on an item in the cart
    2. Choose Note (or the 📝 icon)
    3. Type free text or use a quick selection:
      • "Extra crispy"
      • "No onion"
      • "Medium-rare"
      • "Gluten-free bread"
      • "Lactose-free"
    4. Save

The item line on the ticket is printed with the note in bold with exclamation marks – so the cook doesn't miss it.

    Allergy handling – workflow

    1. Always ask the guest about allergies when taking the order
    2. Use an item comment on the specific dish: "ALLERGY DAIRY – NO CHEESE"
    3. Also add an order comment if the allergy is critical: "Nut allergy – all food in separate pan"
    4. In Guest AI (QR ordering) the AI auto-filters the menu based on the guest's allergy selection – but you as a server should always double-check

    KDS and kitchen printers

    On the KDS screen:

    • The order comment shows as a yellow header row
    • Item comments appear below their rows in italic
    • Allergy comments are highlighted in red

    On kitchen printers:

    • Order comment at the top
    • Item comments directly under each line in bold
    • Exclamation marks are added automatically if the text contains "ALLERGY", "GLUTEN", "LACTOSE" etc.

    Tips

    • Keep comments short – the cook reads them in seconds
    • Use UPPERCASE for allergies – they stand out better
    • For recurring special requests – build them as modifiers on the menu instead (faster, fewer errors)
    • Comments are stored in order history – useful for seeing if a regular guest usually asks for something specific
