Kitchen Display (KDS) – Overview

KDS (Kitchen Display System) is a kitchen screen showing all orders in real time.

Three columns:

Ordered and Cooking are the wide columns. Tickets sit in a grid, two across on a standard kitchen screen and more on a wider one. Ready is narrow: each finished ticket is a row showing what is ready and when, newest first. Tap the row to see the whole ticket. Ready tickets disappear after a while, by default after 10 minutes. Each column scrolls on its own.

The ticket header always has two lines, so the tickets are the same height:

• First line: the table name or tab number, e.g. Nota 8, then Rush or VIP when the ticket has that priority, the tab number on a table ticket and the daily order number, e.g. #8 – the same number as on the paper ticket. Online or Express comes last when the order came from there
• Second line: the service mode – Servering (table service), Äta här (eat in), Avhämtning (takeaway) or Leverans (delivery) – and how long ago the order came in, then the time of the order. The time and the ticket border turn yellow and then red when the ticket has waited long
• The green Börja (start) or Klar (done) button on the far right

On a narrow screen not everything fits. The most important comes first: the table or tab, the service mode and the waiting time are always shown. What comes last on the lines – such as the time of the order, the daily order number on a table ticket or Online – is shown when there is room.

Below the header you see the requested time for takeaway and delivery, a comment on the whole tab and a red box when the order has an allergy.

Each dish shows:

• The quantity first, e.g. 2×, and the dish name. The variant is in brackets
• Modifiers after a plus sign, e.g. + Extra cheese, Guacamole – without prices
• Removed ingredients in red, e.g. − Onion, − Tomato
• Product add-ons under their dish, e.g. + 1× Fries
• A kitchen message after an exclamation mark, in amber italics
• An allergy on the line as a red marker
• The parts of a bundle gathered under Paket: (bundle) and the bundle name
• + Tillägg (addition) or Ändring (change) when the line was added or changed after the ticket was first sent

Nothing is cut off: a long line wraps instead. The guest's name and phone are shown at the bottom when the order is linked to a guest.

Courses: If the restaurant uses courses, the ticket is grouped per course and each group shows whether the course is fired or waiting to be fired. Read more in "Working with KDS".

Light or dark mode: Each kitchen screen can be shown light or dark. Dark is the default. See "Configure Kitchen Screens (KDS)".

Sound: When sound is enabled, a notification plays for new items. The screen settings control this behavior.
