Propose a New Time Instead of Cancelling

You are fully booked at 19:00 but have plenty of room at 21:00. Instead of cancelling the guest, you can ask whether the later time works.

How to do it

1. Open the booking in the detail panel
2. Click Föreslå ny tid (Propose new time) – the button sits just before Cancel, because it is the alternative to cancelling
3. Pick a date and time
4. Choose how long the guest has to answer: 2, 6 or 24 hours
5. Optionally write a line explaining why (e.g. "We are unfortunately fully booked at 19:00")
6. Send

The guest gets an SMS with their booking link and answers there – Yes please or No thanks.

Requires the booking.edit capability, the same one needed to change a booking.

The booking does not move until the guest accepts

This is the most important detail. While the proposal is out, the booking stays at its original time and original table.

The reason is simple: moving the booking at proposal time would take a table away from someone else for a time the guest may never accept.

When the guest accepts, the server moves the booking using the same table selection and the same conflict checks as any other change. If the new time is no longer free when the guest answers, you are told – the booking is not moved onto a table that is already taken.

The deadline is always capped at the proposed time

Choosing a 24-hour deadline on a proposal for tonight automatically shortens it to the start of the sitting. A proposal that expires after the table would have been set anyway is meaningless.

If the guest does not answer

The proposal expires by itself when the deadline passes. The booking remains unchanged at its original time, and you can cancel or propose another time.

One open proposal per booking. To propose something else you must withdraw the first – otherwise the guest would see two conflicting offers.
