Send the receipt to the guest via SMS instead of printing. SMS receipts are more than convenient – they automatically build your customer database through smart phone number matching.
Step by step:
- Complete the payment in the POS
- On the receipt page, click SMS receipt
- Enter the guest's phone number (e.g. "070-123 45 67" or "+46701234567")
- Click Send
- The guest receives an SMS within seconds with a receipt link
Phone number normalization:
The POS normalizes the number automatically before sending:
- 070-123 45 67 → +46701234567
- 0046-701234567 → +46701234567
- +46 70 123 45 67 → +46701234567
This ensures the same person always matches, regardless of how the number is typed.
Automatic customer linking:
The POS automatically matches the number against the customer database:
- Search: Does an existing customer profile match the number?
- If yes (existing customer): The order is linked directly to the existing profile. All history, tags and VIP status are preserved. CRM is updated with the new visit.
- If no (new customer): A new profile is created automatically with:
- Normalized phone number
- First-seen timestamp
- Source: "SMS receipt"
- The order is linked to the new or existing customer
- The activity is automatically logged in the guest's event log
What happens next?
- CRM sync: The customer shows up in Marketing → Guest Registry on the next pull
- Auto tags: If it is the guest's first visit → tag "New customer". 5+ visits → "Regular". Etc.
- Loyalty: If the loyalty program is active, a loyalty profile is created and points are credited for the order
- Future SMS: The next time the POS sees the same number the customer is found instantly
The receipt in the SMS:
The SMS contains a short link (e.g. vendion.com/r/abc123) that opens a mobile-friendly receipt page with:
- Restaurant logo and name
- Date and receipt number
- All items, VAT and total
- Control code and verification code (fiscal law)
- Any discounts and tip
The link is valid for 90 days – enough for complaints and accounting.
Cost:
0.89 SEK per SMS (billed on next monthly invoice). Cheaper than paper receipts (thermal paper + printer wear + time).
Validation rules:
- The number must start with a Swedish or European country code (+46, +45, +47, +358, +49 etc.)
- At least 8 digits after the country code
- Invalid numbers show an error immediately – no cost is charged
GDPR:
The guest's consent to the SMS itself is enough (they actively chose SMS receipt). For marketing SMS separate consent is required – see the Marketing module.
Tips:
- Make SMS receipt the default – 9 out of 10 guests pick it when asked
- Use SMS receipts to build a database for future campaigns (requires marketing consent)
- Is the guest already in your database? Their name will automatically appear in the receipt header in the POS next time
