    Express Kiosk – Setup and Guest Flow

    The Express kiosk is an iPad or Android tablet mounted at the counter where guests order and pay themselves – perfect for lunch rushes, takeaway queues and evening shifts with limited staff.

    Part 1: Hardware and base setup

    You need:

    Printer setup:

    • The kiosk uses the same receipt printer as your main POS if they're close
    • For high volume: dedicated printer behind the counter – see Printers – Pair and Configure

    Part 2: Configure the workstation

    1. Contact Vendion support to add a new workstation of type Express
    2. Info we need:
      • Name: e.g. "Kiosk 1"
      • Fiscal register ID: unique ID (e.g. K-EXP-1) – required by the Tax Agency
      • Printer: which receipt printer it should use
      • Fiscal box: can share with POS or have its own
    3. Within 1 business day the kiosk has an identity in the system and is ready to use

    Part 3: Configure kiosk settings

    On the physical iPad:

    1. Open Safari → go to app.vendion.com/staff/express
    2. Log in with a staff PIN that has permission to run the Express kiosk
    3. First time: choose which workstation this is
    4. Go to Settings (gear icon) and configure:

    1. Enable Guided Access on iPad (iOS) or Kiosk Mode (Android) to lock out other apps

    Part 4: Guest flow – 7 screens

    Screen 1 – Attract (idle):

    • Large pulsing "TAP TO START" button
    • Background video or hero image (configurable in brand settings)
    • Shows your restaurant name and logo

    Screen 2 – Order type:

    • If enabled: "Dine in?" / "Takeaway?" buttons
    • Determines bong destination and VAT (12% on food both ways, but Tax Agency wants the split)

    Screen 3 – Menu:

    • Category bar on the left (landscape) or top (portrait)
    • Large product cards (200×250px) with image + name + price
    • Tap card → opens detail modal with variants/modifiers
    • Cart badge top-right updates in real time

    Screen 4 – Review:

    • Guest sees their cart
    • Can change quantity or remove items
    • Shows total + VAT
    • Button "Continue to payment"

    Screen 5 – Upsell (optional):

    • "Want fries with that?" / "Extra sauce?"
    • Max 2 suggestions – not overwhelming
    • "Skip" button always visible

    Screen 6 – Payment:

    • Total in huge font size
    • Card only: Only card is supported today
    • Guest places card on terminal
    • "Processing..." 2–5 sec
    • Success → next screen

    Screen 7 – Confirmation:

    • "Thanks! Order #12345"
    • Order number shown large (for kitchen to call out)
    • Estimated wait time (if KDS is connected)
    • SMS receipt to guest if they want
    • Auto-return to attract after 15 sec

    Part 5: Common pitfalls

    Problem: Kiosk freezes mid-order

    • Fix: Attract timeout (120 sec) resets to start. Guest has to restart.
    • Prevention: Keep iPad updated (iOS 17+), reboot every night.

    Problem: "No printer" error on receipt

    • Check printer is on
    • Check it's on the same WiFi as the kiosk
    • Test in Admin → Printers → Test print

    Problem: Card payment doesn't work

    • The card terminal must be paired with the kiosk (Bluetooth or USB)
    • Test the terminal in "test mode" first
    • Contact your acquirer (Worldline/Adyen) if the issue persists

    Problem: Guest wants to pay with Swish or gift card

    • Known limitation: Express kiosk currently only supports card
    • Direct them to a staffed register – there Swish, Klarna, gift cards, loyalty all work
    • Improvement on the Q3 2026 roadmap

    Problem: Kiosk gets logged out by iOS

    • Enable Guided Access (Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access)
    • Triple-click Home and choose "Start" to lock the app

    Part 6: Maintenance

    • Daily: Wipe the touch screen and disinfect (guests touch everywhere)
    • Weekly: Reboot the iPad (clears RAM, prevents freezes)
    • Monthly: Check printer has paper, fiscal box is signing, card batch closes properly
