Find the setup URL for a Star printer
A Star CloudPRNT printer (e.g. the mC-Print3) doesn't connect to the till by cable – it fetches its printouts over the internet. For it to know where to call, you need to enter a setup URL into the printer. Here's where to find it.
Where is the setup URL shown?
- Go to Admin → Devices → Printers
- At the bottom there's a section "Setup URLs for printer configuration" – click to expand it (it appears once at least one printer is added)
- For a Star printer you'll see the box "CloudPRNT URL — Star mC-Print3" with an address you can copy
How to use it in the printer:
- Open the printer's own web interface (you reach it via the printer's IP address in a browser)
- Go to CloudPRNT → Server URL
- Paste the setup URL from the Vendion admin
- Leave Basic Auth empty – it's not needed
- Save in the printer
Important: the MAC address must match
The Star printer identifies itself by its MAC address. The one you entered for the printer in the Vendion admin must be exactly the same as the printer's real MAC. You'll find the MAC address on the printer's status printout (hold the FEED button while switching the power on to print a status page).
Good to know:
- The setup URL is the same for all your Star printers – it's the MAC address that tells them apart.
- An Epson printer uses a different address (Server Direct Print) – don't mix them up. The right box shows depending on the printer type you chose.
- If the MAC doesn't match, the printer gets no printouts even though the URL is correct.
Tip: Print a status page on the printer first and have the MAC address in front of you. Then you can fill it in the admin and paste the URL into the printer in one go – and a test print confirms it's all connected.
This feature is part of Vendion POS.
