    Troubleshooting – Tap to Pay

    2 min read#10

Work through the list from top to bottom – the most common causes come first.

"Turn off developer options" / the payment cancels immediately (Android): This is the most common cause on Android, and it looks like an app error even though it isn't. Google does not allow real card payments while the phone's developer options are switched on.

    1. Open the phone's Settings and search for "developer".
    2. Open Developer options and switch off the toggle at the top.
    3. Close Vendion completely and open the app again.

Developer options are often switched on by accident, or when someone installed the app over a cable. If the phone is one of your fixed register devices, it's worth checking once and then leaving alone.

The Tap to Pay button doesn't appear at all:

    • The phone isn't supported. iPad never works. iPhone needs to be XS or newer running iOS 17.6+, Android needs version 12+ with NFC.
    • iOS is too old. Update under Settings → General → Software Update.
    • Missing permission. Staff need Take payment with Tap to Pay. Check under Users → Permission groups.
    • The device isn't connected. Open register settings and connect under This device · Tap to Pay.

The phone won't read the guest's card:

    • Ask the guest to hold the card against the top of the phone, near the camera – not the middle or the back.
    • The screen must be on and unlocked.
    • Remove thick cases, wallet folios or magnetic mounts and try again.
    • Hold the card still for a couple of seconds.

The payment hangs or takes a long time:

    • Check that the phone has internet.
    • Cancel, wait a few seconds and start again from Take payment. A bill never closes without an approved payment, so it's safe to retry.

Still not working: Contact Vendion support. Tell us the phone model and what the screen says when it fails – that's usually enough to find the cause straight away.
