Get Started With Tap to Pay

    2 min read#8

With Tap to Pay, your phone becomes the card terminal. The guest holds their card, phone or watch against your phone and the payment goes through. No extra hardware needed.

It works exactly like a normal card payment in Vendion: the receipt is created, the control code is set and the bill closes the same way.

How to tell if your phone works:

    PhoneRequirement
iPhoneiPhone XS or newer, running iOS 17.6 or later
AndroidAndroid 12 or later, with built-in NFC

iPad does not work. An iPad lacks the required reader, so Vendion doesn't show the button there. This applies to every iPad model – it's a hardware limitation, not something that can be switched on.

Not sure whether your Android phone has NFC? Search for "NFC" in the phone's Settings. If there's no such setting, the phone doesn't have the reader.

    Connect the phone:

    1. Sign in to the register on the phone you want to use.
    2. Open register settings and find the row This device · Tap to Pay.
    3. Tap Connect and follow the steps.

You can also connect straight from the register: the first time you pick Tap to Pay at payment, Vendion offers to set the device up for you.

The first time on iPhone, Apple shows its Tap to Pay terms. Read and accept them – then a short walkthrough explains how the guest should hold their card. This appears only once per phone.

Permission: staff need the Take payment with Tap to Pay permission to see the button. It's part of the baseline for the Staff group, so in most restaurants it's already on. If the button is missing, start by checking the permission group under Users → Permission groups.

Connection is per phone. If three phones should be able to take payment, connect all three.
