PIN login at the till
In a restaurant, staff need to swap places at the till in seconds. That is why everyone identifies themselves with a personal PIN instead of email and password.
What the PIN is used for:
- Fast identification – log in to the POS with 4–6 digits and press OK
- Traceability – every order, payment and action is tied to whoever is logged in, which shows up in the cash log
- Switching the active person on a shared till (see the staff switcher article)
How to log in:
- When the till is waiting, a PIN screen with a number pad appears
- Enter your personal PIN (4–6 digits)
- Press OK – you are logged in and ready to work
If you enter the wrong code the screen shakes and you can try again.
A PIN is not the same as your account password
| PIN code | Account password | |
|---|---|---|
| Used for | Fast login at the till | Logging in to the app/admin |
| Length | 4–6 digits | Longer, letters + digits |
| Where | At the terminal | On the login page |
Set or change your PIN: You manage your own PIN from your profile in the app. An administrator adds you as a staff member; after that you choose your own PIN.
Security tips:
- Never share your PIN with a colleague – the whole point is that actions can be traced to the right person
- Avoid obvious codes like 1234 or your birth year
- Suspect someone knows your code? Change it straight away in your profile.
Good to know: Some sensitive actions (such as leaving POS mode or approving a void) require a manager PIN on top of the regular login.
This feature is part of Vendion POS.
