POS installation: what should the cost include?

A well-prepared introduction helps staff start using the new POS in an organised way. Installation can cover menu configuration, networking, printers, payments and training.

Ask for a clear scope

Have the supplier specify what is included, what can be done remotely and when someone needs to be on site. Clarify who prepares menus, prices, floor plans and user accounts.

• Is existing data transferred?
• Are card payments and printing tested before opening?
• How are staff and managers introduced to the system?
• What support is available during the first shifts?
• Which additional costs could arise?

A low starting fee is difficult to evaluate if essential work is excluded. At the same time, you should be able to understand the purpose of every cost.

Separate setup from everyday administration

Try common changes such as updating a menu or adding a user. Check which tasks the restaurant can manage itself and which require supplier assistance. This gives a better basis for assessing ongoing costs.
